Job summary

The City of Tukwila is seeking a Development Engineering Manager to guide growth through city codes, plan review, and policy implementation. You will lead an engineering division, coordinate with the Community Development Director and Public Works, and present to boards and the City Council.

The role blends technical civil engineering leadership with strategic planning, budgeting, and multi‑jurisdiction coordination.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices and methods.
• Familiarity with municipal operations and council processes.

Responsibilities

• Plans, directs, and manages the engineering workgroup and staff.
• Sets goals, provides direction and leadership to staff.
• Supervises division staff including performance evaluations and mentoring.
• Evaluates operations and improves customer service, productivity and efficiency.
• Prepares and monitors the workgroup budget and long-term needs.
• Oversees development review, civil construction, regulatory compliance, and inspection functions.
• Serves as project manager on large, complex, or sensitive projects with multi‑jurisdiction coordination.
