Job summary

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire is seeking a Director of Development to drive annual and major gift opportunities in support of our mission. Summary:

The Director of Development is responsible for driving annual and major gift opportunities to support the mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire. This role focuses on identifying prospective donors and executing intentional face-to-face engagement through qualifying, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individuals, corporations, and foundations. The Director of Development also collaborates with the executive leadership team to achieve fundraising goals.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Assist with development and executing a strategic multi-year resource development plan in collaboration with the executive team and Board of Directors.
  • Assist the Chief Development Officer in setting annual fundraising goals and budgets, implement strategies to exceed targets, and monitor the resource development budget to ensure alignment with organizational standards for donor stewardship and financial recordkeeping.
  • Lead special fundraising initiatives, fundraising in areas such as leadership, annual, major gifts, endowments, and planned giving, in coordination with the CEO and Chief Development Officer.
  • Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward individual, corporate, and foundation gifts.
  • Consistently engage with new prospects through outreach calls and meetings (in-person or virtual) to identify and qualify potential donors. Focus on steady, incremental progress, recognizing that small, consistent efforts lead to meaningful long-term results.
  • Manage a portfolio of assigned donors by developing and documenting individualized cultivation and solicitation strategies. Build and strengthen relationships to purposefully guide donors toward increased engagement and long-term philanthropic investment in the organization.
  • Track the complete donor lifecycle including identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed donor records by documenting all engagement activities, notes, pledges, and correspondence and communication in Boomerang.
  • Collaborate with Chief Development Officer and the finance team to process, receipt, and acknowledge gifts according to organizational procedures.
  • Analyze development activities and provide data for reports to leadership, the Board of Directors, and committees.
  • Assist the Assistant Development Director in planning events and securing sponsorships and donations.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and review materials for campaigns, events, and internal initiatives to ensure alignment with branding and organizational goals.
  • Collaborate closely with the Grants Manager to align fundraising strategies and coordinate efforts across grant proposals, donor campaigns, and organizational priorities.
  • Develop content for annual fund direct mail and other development programs.
  • Ensure ethical and compliant operation by following agency policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional tasks assigned by Chief Development Officer.
Requirements
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • A bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Communications, Marketing, Business Administration or a related field is required.
  • Five years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, event planning, or nonprofit development is preferred.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends for events and donor engagement activities.
Skills and Knowledge Requirements:
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
  • Time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to take initiative, prioritize duties, and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
  • Constant hearing, hand-eye coordination, mind-eye coordination.
  • Intermittent speaking, standing, walking, kneeling, lifting, reaching, low-level activity, and squatting.
  • Potential exposure to communicable diseases.
  • Frequent lifting of objects under 20 pounds, and occasional lifting of items up to 75 pounds.
  • Indoor with minimal outdoor work. Extreme temperatures in the summer and winter to be expected.
