Job summary

Boston Children’s Hospital seeks a Development Assistant to support two to three frontline fundraisers and drive operational excellence in fundraising efforts. You will assist in materials, schedule meetings, coordinate donor travel, and organize donor visits.

The role requires strong communication, data handling, and event coordination skills, with a focus on donor databases and reporting. Flexible schedules and comprehensive benefits are offered.

Qualifications

  • Min of an Associate’s Degree and 4 years of fundraising related work experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred and would replace the experience requirement.
  • One additional year of development, marketing, events or customer service experience, preferably at BCH.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing materials for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors.
  • Maintain supervisor calendar and schedule meetings with donors, doctors, and staff.
  • Arrange local to international travel for Trust and hospital staff as needed.
  • Organize donor visits and prepare reports and documents.
  • Manage donor data and run basic reports and queries.
  • Provide general office support and answer phones.
  • Organize events and manage invitation lists, rooms, refreshments and staffing.
  • Support special projects and develop proficiency in the donor database.
  • May train and support other administrative staff.

Job/Department Summary:

Working closely with the Foundation Relations team, the Development Assistant will support operational excellence and advanced fundraising initiatives. This role will provide critical coordination and administrative support for two to three frontline fundraising staff which provides vital funds to support our cutting-edge research, community outreach, patient family programs and medical education for the hospital.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in developing materials for use in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors and prospects
  • Maintain meeting calendar of supervisor and schedule internal and external appointments and meetings with donors, doctors, volunteers, trustees, and hospital staff. Reserve and prepare conference rooms and order refreshments for meetings and donor visits
  • Make local, national, and/or international travel arrangements for Trust staff, and hospital staff as needed
  • Organize donor visits and may attend when appropriate
  • Maintain constituent information in donor database including biographical information, Trust codes, solicitor actions and proposal information
  • Provide general office support including answering phones, greeting and directing guests, and providing other basic administrative help as necessary
  • Organize events/meetings including developing and managing invitation lists, attendance, room space, refreshments and staffing the event
  • Assist supervisor with special projects and preparation of reports and documents as needed
  • Develop proficiency in donor database, with the ability to run basic reports and queries
  • May serve as resource and provide training to other administrative staff
Education/Requirements:
  • Min of an Associate’s Degree and 4 years of fundraising related work experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred and would replace the experience requirement. One (1) additional year of development, marketing, events or customer service experience required, preferably at BCH.

  • Ability to develop strong relationships with others and fosters a positive organization and brand image.
  • Demonstrates good critical thinking skills
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (WORD, Excel, PowerPoint); Ability to work with data and databases
  • Ability to proactively problem solve and recommend process improvements
  • Good time management skills

The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good‑faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting. Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job‑related factors.
