Job summary

Boston Children’s Hospital is seeking a Development Assistant to support Foundation Relations through operational excellence and fundraising initiatives. You will coordinate administrative support for two to three frontline staff, assisting with donor cultivation, advisement, and stewardship that sustains hospital research and patient-family programs.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of an Associate’s Degree and 4 years of fundraising related work experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; would replace the experience requirement.
  • One additional year of development, marketing, events or customer service experience is preferred, ideally at BCH.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing materials for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors and prospects.
  • Maintain supervisor's meeting calendar and coordinate internal/external appointments with donors, doctors, volunteers, trustees, and staff.
  • Arrange travel for Trust staff and hospital staff as needed.
  • Organize donor visits and attend when appropriate.
  • Maintain donor database with biographical info, codes, actions and proposals.
  • Provide general office support including phones and greeting visitors.
  • Organize events and meetings with invitation lists, attendance, room setup, and staffing.
  • Assist supervisor with special projects and reports.
  • Develop proficiency in donor database and run basic reports/queries.
  • Serve as resource and provide training to other administrative staff.

Job/Department Summary:

Working closely with the Foundation Relations team, the Development Assistant will support operational excellence and advanced fundraising initiatives. This role will provide critical coordination and administrative support for two to three frontline fundraising staff which provides vital funds to support our cutting-edge research, community outreach, patient family programs and medical education for the hospital.


Responsibilities


  • Assist in developing materials for use in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors and prospects

  • Maintain meeting calendar of supervisor and schedule internal and external appointments and meetings with donors, doctors, volunteers, trustees, and hospital staff. Reserve and prepare conference rooms and order refreshments for meetings and donor visits

  • Make local, national, and/or international travel arrangements for Trust staff, and hospital staff as needed

  • Organize donor visits and may attend when appropriate

  • Maintain constituent information in donor database including biographical information, Trust codes, solicitor actions and proposal information

  • Provide general office support including answering phones, greeting and directing guests, and providing other basic administrative help as necessary

  • Organize events/meetings including developing and managing invitation lists, attendance, room space, refreshments and staffing the event

  • Assist supervisor with special projects and preparation of reports and documents as needed

  • Develop proficiency in donor database, with the ability to run basic reports and queries

  • May serve as resource and provide training to other administrative staff


Education/Requirements


  • Min of an Associate’s Degree and 4 years of fundraising related work experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred and would replace the experience requirement. One (1) additional year of development, marketing, events or customer service experience required, preferably at BCH.

  • Strong communication (written and verbal) skills

  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (WORD, Excel, PowerPoint); Ability to work with data and databases

  • Ability to proactively problem solve and recommend process improvements

  • Good time management skills

  • Cover letter is preferred


The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
