Job summary

Propio Language Services in Detroit, MI area seeks American Sign Language Onsite Contract Interpreters to provide accurate English–ASL interpretation for on-site and remote assignments. Independent contractor relationship; flexibility with assignments; adherence to privacy, security, and ethics requirements.

Candidates must be 18+, hold ASL certifications (RID/EIPA 3.7+/BEI) or state license where required, and submit a resume in English.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Professional proficiency in English and American Sign Language.
• Ability to accurately provide interpretation between English and American Sign Language.
• Must Hold at least ONE American Sign Language Certification (RID, EIPA 3.7+, BEI).
• State license where applicable.
• Submission of a current résumé in English during the application process.
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education/experience.
• Basic computer and technology proficiency.
• Ability to reliably travel to onsite assignments.
• Health and immunization requirements may apply (TB, MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, etc.).
• Background checks and drug screening may be required.
• Confidentiality, privacy, and professional ethics commitments.
• One+ years of professional interpreting experience.
• Experience in medical, legal, community, educational, or social-services interpreting.
• Relevant interpreter training or certifications.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate and professional consecutive interpretation between English and American Sign Language at onsite assignments.
• Provide remote interpretation by telephone or video when applicable to an assignment.
• Follow interpreter protocols, standards, and client requirements.
• Comply with confidentiality, privacy, security, and ethics requirements.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with data protection standards (HIPAA, FERPA, GLBA).
• Maintain professional interactions with clients, patients, and healthcare professionals.
• Maintain language proficiency and subject-matter knowledge for accurate interpretation.
