Qualifications

  • Minimum 2+ years in desktop/help-desk or IT support.

Responsibilities

Job description

The Desktop Support Technician provides hands‑on technical support in a fast‑paced law firm environment. This position is responsible for troubleshooting hardware, software, networking, and user‑access issues while ensuring that employees have reliable and secure technology to perform their work. The ideal candidate is highly customer‑focused, technically proficient, organized, and comfortable supporting users who may require immediate assistance in a deadline‑driven legal environment. The Desktop Support Technician must exercise discretion when handling confidential client information and adhere to the firm's information‑security policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide first- and second-level technical support to attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, and administrative personnel.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues involving Windows workstations, laptops, monitors, printers, scanners, mobile devices, and other peripherals.
  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot desktop hardware and software.
  • Support Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and OneDrive/SharePoint.
  • Provide technical support for legal-specific applications, document management systems, case-management software, timekeeping/billing systems, and e-discovery tools.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity, VPN, Wi‑Fi, remote‑access, and shared‑resource issues.
  • Create, modify, and troubleshoot user accounts, permissions, and access to applications and network resources in accordance with established security policies.
  • Assist with onboarding and offboarding employees, including workstation setup, software installation, equipment deployment, and account access.
  • Respond to help-desk tickets, document troubleshooting steps, and maintain accurate records of incidents and resolutions.
  • Provide remote and in-person technical support while maintaining a professional and service-oriented approach.
  • Assist with technology projects, workstation upgrades, software deployments, hardware refreshes, and office moves.
  • Support conference rooms, video conferencing, presentations, and other technology used for meetings, depositions, hearings, and client presentations.
  • Assist with cybersecurity initiatives, including endpoint protection, software updates, multi‑factor authentication, phishing awareness, and security best practices.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of computers, peripherals, software, and other technology assets.
  • Escalate complex issues to senior IT staff, vendors, or managed-service providers as appropriate.
  • Protect confidential client, attorney, and firm information in accordance with firm policies and applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience providing desktop, help-desk, or technical support, preferably in a financial, legal or professional‑services environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows operating systems and Microsoft 365.
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware, software, printers, networking, VPNs, and mobile devices.
  • Familiarity with Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID/Azure AD, endpoint management, and user‑access administration.
  • Experience with ticketing/help-desk systems and remote‑support tools.
  • Familiarity with legal technology and document management systems is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of information‑security principles and the importance of protecting confidential information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong customer-service and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize competing requests and work effectively under time-sensitive conditions.
  • Ability to explain technical issues clearly to users with varying levels of technical knowledge.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with the broader IT team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting a law firm, corporate legal department, accounting firm, or other professional‑services organization.
  • Experience with legal applications such as iManage, NetDocuments, Relativity, Litera, Aderant, or similar platforms.
  • Microsoft, CompTIA, or other relevant technical certifications.
  • Experience supporting hybrid and remote employees.
  • Familiarity with endpoint security, device management, and cybersecurity best practices.
