Job summary

Mortenson is seeking a Design Phase Manager I or II to provide leadership during the design phase, aligning scope, schedule, and budget with customer experience and financial performance, and ensuring a smooth transition to construction.

Candidates will manage budgets, schedules, approvals, and design documents, work with owners, architects, engineers, and trade partners, and mentor design-phase team members. Base pay varies by location and experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, Estimating, or equivalent field.
• Strong teamwork, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
• Detail-oriented to organize and manage multiple project tasks.
• Basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead the project team in achieving scope and budget alignment, schedule alignment, an integrated team experience, construction readiness, and excellent financial performance
• Establish and manage project budget and scope expectations, budget trending logs, and any associated communications and resources
• Create and supervise manage project schedules and key achievements, hold team members accountable for reaching set achievements
• Ensure regulatory approvals and permits are obtained
• Ensure proper alignment of design documents and project execution plan
• Responsible for bid packages and contract manuals
• Identify and resolve technical design and specification concerns
• Develop project margin plan
• Act as primary point of contact with owners, architects, engineers, and trade partners during the design phase and lead the overall project team
• Monitor and measure against project success factors for customers, design partners, and Mortenson team
• Foster an integrated team experience through communication and collaboration
• Manage, mentor, and guide design phase team members to ensure clear direction and career growth
• Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
• Lead team members by example, offer effective coaching and feedback, and effectively manage performance
