Job summary

Mortenson is seeking an experienced Design Phase Manager II to translate the owner’s vision into design solutions and construction parameters through leadership of the design process and team members. You may work on two projects simultaneously or one larger project, ensuring alignment with scope, budget, and schedule.

Ideal candidates bring a Bachelor’s degree in construction-related fields and 8+ years of relevant experience, with strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Construction Management, Estimating, or equivalent.
• 8+ years of relevant experience.
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Knowledge of construction law and business practices.
• Ability to travel up to 100%.

Responsibilities

• Overall project leadership during the design phase related to customer experience, financial performance, schedule, estimating, design, and planning for a smooth transition to construction operations.
• Lead the project team in achieving scope and budget alignment, schedule alignment, and construction readiness.
• Establish and manage project budget and scope expectations and communications.
• Create and supervise project schedules and ensure team accountability.
• Secure regulatory approvals and permits.
• Align design documents with project execution plan and bid packages.
• Identify and resolve technical design concerns.
• Develop project margin plan and liaise with owners, architects, engineers, and trades.
• Monitor project success factors for customers, partners, and Mortenson.
• Foster an integrated team through communication and collaboration.
• Mentor design phase team members and support career growth.
• Engage with diverse backgrounds and levels; lead by example.
