Job summary

Southland Industries in Austin, TX offers an Internship and New College Graduate program designed to immerse you in Design Engineering for the Design/Build HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection industry. The primary responsibility is to assist the design team across tasks.

You will work with Senior Engineers on calculations, drawings, and specifications, gain hands-on experience with CADD, review codes, and coordinate with project management and trades.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with Thermodynamics and HVAC Design coursework highly desirable.
• Demonstrates a strong work ethic and initiative.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
• Ability to work with limited supervision and be resourceful.
• Quick learner with a positive attitude in challenging situations.
• Competent business writing and public speaking.

Responsibilities

• Assist Senior Engineers in design tasks as required.
• Perform basic calculations for heating, cooling loads and equipment sizing.
• Prepare drawings and specifications for HVAC systems under supervision.
• Coordinate design effort with project management, architects, and other trades.
• Perform and check CADD drafting work.
• Review codes and site conditions to support the design.
