Job summary

Southland Industries offers an internship and new college graduate program designed to immerse students in the Design Engineering field for HVAC, plumbing and fire protection. You will assist the design team and gain hands-on experience across calculations, drawings, and specifications with senior engineers guiding you.

You will learn to read mechanical plans, coordinate with project management, and develop strong business writing and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with Thermodynamics and HVAC Design coursework desirable.
• Strong work ethic and proactive problem solving.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to learn quickly and work with limited supervision.

Responsibilities

• Assist Senior Engineers in design tasks as required.
• Perform basic deliverables like calculations, drawings, and specs for HVAC systems under supervision.
• Perform basic calculations for loads, equipment sizing, piping/duct sizing, and friction losses.
• Coordinate project design with project management, architects, and trades through completion.
• Perform and check CADD drafting work.
• Review codes and field conditions to support design.
