Job summary

B.A. Worthing, Inc. is seeking a Director of Design-Build Operations to lead the design-build lifecycle from concept through construction in Carlsbad. This hands-on leadership role connects design, project delivery, clients, people, and systems to scale without sacrificing quality.

You will oversee Design/Drafting and Project Management, translating design vision into buildable solutions, strengthening processes, and developing the team to deliver consistent results for a growing portfolio.

Qualifications

• Approximately 8–10+ years of progressive experience in architecture/design-build leadership.
• California architectural license or active progress toward licensure (3 of 6 exams).
• Strong schematic design, construction docs, code, permitting, and constructability capability.

Responsibilities

• Lead design execution from feasibility through construction documents, permitting, and plan-check; stay hands-on with drawings and redlines.
• Translate design vision into buildable solutions balancing aesthetics, constructability, budget, and client expectations.
• Lead design direction independently on small projects; partner with ownership on larger ones to expand authority.
• Maintain portfolio visibility across design, preconstruction, and construction.
• Create accountability through project phases and surface risks early to keep projects on track.
• Strengthen design quality controls and team capability across the lifecycle.
