Job summary

State of Oregon’s Oregon State Police – State Medical Examiner’s Office in Eugene seeks a Deputy State Medical Examiner. This full-time, permanent position will perform autopsies, provide expert medical consultation, and supervise medicolegal death investigations across Oregon.

The role requires medical degree, ABP board eligibility/certification, and Oregon license. Responsibilities include training law enforcement and investigators, with opportunities to contribute to a new Eugene facility

Qualifications

  • MD or DO from an approved medical school.
  • Board certification or qualification for certification in anatomic or clinical/anatomic pathology.
  • Board certification in forensic pathology within two years of hire.
  • Oregon medical license or ability to obtain one at hire.
  • Official transcripts for degree(s) used in the award of your degree may be required.
  • Salary differential of 7.5% added upon board certification in forensic pathology.

Responsibilities

  • Perform autopsies and provide expert medical consultation in appropriate cases.
  • Share autopsy responsibilities with the State Medical Examiner and other Deputy State Medical Examiners, rotating weekend, night, holiday, and vacation coverage.
  • Write autopsy reports, and other reports as appropriate, relating to death investigations.
  • Provide training to law enforcement agencies, county medical examiners, district attorneys, and medicolegal death investigators.
