Job summary

The Oregon State Police, Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office in Eugene, seeks a Deputy State Medical Examiner to perform autopsies and provide expert medical consultation in death investigations. You will write autopsy reports, provide testimony, and train investigators and medical staff.

Board certification in forensic pathology within two years of hire is required, and an Oregon medical license or eligibility.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an approved school of medicine with an MD or DO degree.
• Board certification or qualification for certification in anatomic or clinical/anatomic pathology from the American Board of Pathology.
• Board certification in forensic pathology within two years of hiring.
• Licensed to practice medicine in Oregon or eligibility at time of hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform autopsies and provide expert medical consultation in appropriate cases.
• Write autopsy reports and related death-investigation documents.
• Provide training to law enforcement, county medical examiners, prosecutors, and investigators.
