Job description

The Atlantic is in search of a highly collaborative, organized, and ideas-driven person to work alongside the executive producer of audio to collaborate on strategy, editorial direction, planning across shows, and new show development. To start, this person will take the lead on and edit The David Frum Show . We’re looking for someone who has keen news judgement and can work with hosts on complex episode ideas, and who knows how to motivate a team and keep it on schedule. This person will step in as needed on Radio Atlantic , our flagship weekly, and other audio offerings from The Atlantic .

Responsibilities Include:

  • Responsible for weekly publication of The David Frum Show

  • Work with the executive producer of audio to develop new projects

  • Support as needed with editing and oversight for other audio shows, including working with hosts and producers to identify topics, guests, and relevant stories for Radio Atlantic

  • Manage team of direct reports

  • Provide pitch feedback, host questions and script rewrites, and structure revisions for the episodes, as needed

  • Work with producers on incorporating fact-checking, copy, and legal notes

  • Sit in on tracking sessions and offer feedback during sessions and in post-production

  • Attend regular newsroom meetings and collaborate with other editorial departments as needed

  • May be assigned to edit special projects or series as needed

Qualifications of the ideal candidate:

  • A record of editing conversational and newsy episodes under deadline pressure

  • Impeccable news judgment and keen understanding of journalism ethics

  • 12+ years of experience

  • Experience in working with hosts through scripting, interviewing, and story development

  • Proven record of successfully managing teams to meet tight deadlines

  • A collaborative approach to creation and an independent work ethic

  • Experience editing narrative story telling is a plus

  • A penchant for mentoring and collaboration

Salary minimum: $120,000; Salary maximum: $180,000

This position is located in Washington, D.C. or New York
