Job summary

San Benito County is seeking an Assistant Auditor-Controller to lead the Auditor-Controller's Office, directing daily functions across budgeting, payroll, accounting, and auditing. The role entails supervising professional and support staff, providing technical accounting expertise, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and government reporting standards.

Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor's in accounting or related field and at least two years of progressive accounting and supervisory

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or closely related field; required from an accredited four-year college or university.
• Two years of professional accounting experience at a level equivalent to Auditor–Accountant II/III with administrative and supervisory duties.
• Broad and extensive professional work in accounting, auditing, and financial analysis; government experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes and directs the daily functions of the Auditor's Office, including budget and administration, payroll, fixed assets, procurement, general accounting, accounts payable, auditing, and financial reporting.
• Supervises and evaluates assigned accounting staff; provides for development and conducts disciplinary actions as needed.
• Provides technical accounting expertise to department staff and other County personnel, including department heads and outside auditing firms.
• Analyzes, revises, drafts and implements improved accounting systems, policies and procedures.
• Maintains accurate and complete accounting records and prepares financial and statistical reports.
