Job summary

San Bernardino County through the Auditor-Controller/Treasurer/Tax Collector (ATC) invites applications for the Supervising Accountant/Auditors role. The position performs advanced cost accounting and conducts complex integrated audits across departments, recommending priorities and schedules.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor's in accounting/finance, at least two years of professional-level accounting including supervisory exposure, and an active CPA license or substantial governmental

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced cost accounting and complex audits across departments.
  • Review and manage audits and accounting tasks; set priorities and schedules.
  • Coordinate with management on sensitive problems and propose procedures to increase efficiency.
  • Assist in developing audit plans and schedules for the County.

Job description

San Bernardino County is recruiting for Supervising Accountant/Auditors

Perform advanced, complex cost accounting work or perform the most difficult and complex integrated financial, operational, compliance and/or fraud audits; reviews and performs extensive and complex accounting work involving the complete fiscal activities of a department; recommends audit priorities and schedules; confers with management on sensitive problems; analyzes and proposes procedures to increase efficiency.

A current vacancy exists at the Auditor-Controller/Treasurer/Tax Collector (ATC) office.

The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies as they occur throughout the County.

Auditing Pay Differential - 2.0% above base rate of pay. (ATC and HS only)

Certified Public Accountant Stipend - $750 annual CPA stipend for employees who attain and maintain a valid CPA License.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Travel: A valid California Class C Driver License is required to carry out the essential job‑related functions of this position. Mileage reimbursement and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained.

Background: Candidates selected for this position must pass a background investigation and medical examination including drug screening; candidates selected for law enforcement departments, public safety positions, or positions where legally required, must pass a more stringent background check.

Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.

CANDIDATES MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS

Education: Must possess a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, economics OR a bachelor's degree in another field which must include 30 semester (45 quarter) units of completed college coursework in accounting. (Transcripts with qualifying coursework is required if degree is in another field.)

Experience: Must possess two (2) years of full‑time equivalent professional‑level accounting or auditing experience, of which one (1) year must be equivalent to a Senior Accountant/Auditor with San Bernardino County.

Important Notes: Professional‑level experience is defined as occupations that require specialized knowledge usually acquired through principal work experience. Clerical/bookkeeping experience is not considered qualifying.

Education Addition: Qualifying degrees or coursework must be completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. Degrees or coursework completed outside the U.S. must be accompanied with an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service showing equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. (Must be attached if applicable.) For education evaluation services, refer to Naces.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in accounting, lead or supervisory experience over professional‑level accounting staff, an active CPA license, and/or extensive governmental accounting experience.
