Job Description

The Deployment Manager oversees resource planning, allocation, and utilization to ensure optimal alignment of talent with business needs. Deployment Managers act as strategic advisors to their respective business units, providing guidance and support to ensure that resource management aligns with the overall business strategy.

Responsibilities
  1. Forecasting
  2. Conduct the regular (e.g., annual) forecasting process, including comparing current year schedules to prior year actuals and project budgets, engaging with Delivery Managers as needed to ensure the accuracy of scheduled information for recurring projects.
  3. Create initial proposals of projected charge hours, finalize forecasting hours with Delivery Teams, update validated hours in the scheduling system, and validate forecasting hours on a frequent basis.
  4. Project and Resource Allocation
  5. Oversee the assignment process for all team member levels, including Complementary Workforce such as BT Pie, by aligning resources with project requirements and other considerations, including budgets, leverage model, and team member skill sets and experiences.
  6. Facilitate the scheduling of resources to appropriate client assignments based on timing, capacity, levels, skills, and other necessary requirements.
  7. Oversee the overall engagement and project allocation process, including new or recurring projects.
  8. Support team members, People Managers, Service Line Team Leaders, and Project Principals in Charge (PPIC) with resource planning and allocation.
  9. Collaborate with other Deployment Managers across different business units to ensure the optimal allocation and cross-utilization of resources, working together to comprehensively assess supply and demand across the business.
  10. Understand the skills, experiences, and career goals of professional staff to ensure optimal alignment of client assignments and coordinate the management of the skills inventory for the service line to identify skills gaps or nuances within teams.
  11. Confirm required changes of ongoing schedules with Delivery Managers and update the scheduling system accordingly.
  12. Oversee the day-to-day activities of respective Deployment Specialists, delegate relevant tasks, resolve scheduling conflicts, and handle any escalations from Deployment Specialists or the practice.
  13. Advise team members, People Managers, Service Line Team Leaders, and Project Principals on resource management guidelines to ensure optimal utilization.
  14. Attend and prepare for Weekly SL RM Calls to discuss deployment, upcoming projects, resourcing needs, and issues with RM SL Deployment Leads, RM Champions, Delivery Principals, and Delivery Managers.
  15. Prepare content related to the latest project pipeline for in-flight, sold, and upcoming projects for these meetings.
  16. Participate in calibration meetings and discussions with leadership to ensure accurate performance evaluations and address performance or staffing issues.
  17. Utilization Management
  18. Use scheduling tools to forecast hours, track utilization, and monitor headcount and chargeable hours.
  19. Communicate resource availability and project status proactively to ensure effective utilization.
  20. Investigate discrepancies between scheduled and actual billed hours, and address underutilization issues.
  21. Work with team members and their managers to develop action plans for utilization variances.
  22. Business Relationship Management
  23. Develop and maintain strong relationships with team members at all levels.
  24. Serve as the main contact for resource management questions and issues.
  25. Drive standardized resource management processes and coordinate regular meetings with stakeholders to review strategies.
  26. Reporting and Insights
  27. Maintain accurate staff profiles and schedules in the scheduling database.
  28. Generate and analyze resource management reports, including availability and utilization data.
Other Responsibilities
  1. Assist other RM Regional / Practice Deployment Managers as needed.
  2. Provide updates and escalate issues related to resource utilization.
  3. Collaborate with HR and other teams on workforce planning, performance management, and onboarding.
  4. Support development and career growth of deployment staff.
  5. Participate in ad hoc internal projects.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
  • At least 5+ years of related experience, preferably in a professional services firm
  • Interest in strategic resource management and connecting with others
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
