Job summary

BARNES & NOBLE COLLEGE is seeking a Department Manager to lead an assigned department within a campus store environment. You will drive daily operations, coaching a team, managing inventory, and delivering exceptional customer service to support students, faculty, and campus partners.

The role requires strong leadership, merchandising, and analytical skills to improve performance, while maintaining a safe and compliant store.

Qualifications

• 2+ years retail leadership, supervision, or buying experience preferred.
• Demonstrated leadership recruiting, coaching, and developing team members.
• Experience with retail operations including merchandising, inventory, and sales performance.
• Strong customer service, communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills; able to manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily department operations with a customer-first focus, coach staff, and foster teamwork.
• Drive department performance by executing strategies, managing inventory, and monitoring results.
• Recruit, hire, train, coach, schedule, and develop department team members.
• Partner with store leadership to support overall store operations and execute company priorities.
• Build relationships with customers and campus partners while resolving concerns professionally.
• Lead merchandising, inventory management, and visual presentation to ensure product availability and readiness.
• Analyze performance and trends to forecast needs and achieve measurable results.
• Champion safety, standards, and loss prevention in line with policies.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized department with flexible scheduling.
