Job summary

Barnes & Noble College is seeking a Department Manager to lead an assigned department within our campus stores, delivering outstanding customer service and driving sales. This role partners with store leadership to execute operations, merchandising, and inventory plans while developing a high-performing team.

You will recruit, train, and coach team members, monitor performance, and ensure a safe, customer-focused environment.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of retail leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
• Experience recruiting, coaching, developing, and motivating team members.
• Experience with merchandising, inventory management, customer service, and sales performance.
• Strong communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with retail technology and POS systems; MS Office preferred.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily operations of an assigned department with a focus on customer service and sales.
• Recruit, hire, train, coach, and develop department team members.
• Partner with store leadership to support overall store operations and initiatives.
• Oversee merchandising, inventory, visual presentation, and workload execution.
• Analyze department performance and forecasting to drive results.
• Maintain safety, standards, and loss prevention practices while ensuring a clean department.
