BARNES & NOBLE COLLEGE seeks a Department Manager to lead an assigned department within a campus store, delivering exceptional customer service and achieving sales and operational goals.

You will recruit, train, and coach team members while coordinating with store leadership to ensure merchandising, inventory control, and a superior customer experience. Flexibility for evenings and weekends is required.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of retail experience with leadership or supervisory responsibilities
• Proven ability to recruit, coach, develop, and motivate team members
• Experience in retail operations including merchandising, inventory, customer service and sales performance
• Strong customer service, communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills
• Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Proficiency with retail technology and POS systems; MS Office preferred
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak periods

Responsibilities

• Lead daily operations of an assigned department, delivering exceptional customer service and coaching team members
• Own department performance by executing business strategies, driving sales, and managing inventory
• Recruit, hire, train, coach, schedule, and develop department staff; foster collaboration and accountability
• Partner with store leadership to support overall store operations and initiatives
• Build strong relationships with customers and campus partners; resolve concerns professionally
• Lead merchandising, inventory management, and visual presentation to ensure product availability and readiness
• Analyze department performance, trends, and metrics to forecast needs and drive results
• Champion safety and loss prevention while complying with company policies
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized department with a flexible schedule
