Job description

General Responsibility

The dental receptionist serves as the focal point for the practice management software, if applicable. The dental receptionist answers the telephone, referring callers to the appropriate dental source. The dental receptionist must check-in / checkout patients and triages appointments for dental staff. The position requires knowledge of dental terminology but does not entail management responsibilities.

Specific Responsibilities
  1. Greeting patients as they arrive.
  2. Scheduling appointments according to written protocols.
  3. Registering appropriate data and assisting patients with dental history forms if necessary.
  4. Correcting registration errors.
  5. Understanding insurance coverage and seeking clarification when unsure.
  6. Assisting patients with completing consent and financial forms as needed.
  7. Following up on 'DNKA / No Show' patients daily.
  8. Collecting co-pays and balances on patient accounts.
  9. Verifying patients' insurance and medical history.
  10. Entering and updating family size and income to determine sliding scale qualifications.
  11. Monitoring inventory and confirming patient appointments.
  12. Performing miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  13. Participating in continuing education, including an annual OSHA Blood-borne Pathogen Standard training.
Qualifications

High School Diploma / GED. Minimum of one year of dental office experience preferred. Current CPR / AED certification.

Special Qualifications

Effective interpersonal skills, good organizational abilities, and computer literacy are essential. Ability to understand and read dental charts. Knowledge of public health principles is preferred. Demonstrates understanding and respect for everyone's experiences, ensuring services recognize that every moment matters.
