Job summary

MyCHN in the Greater Houston area is seeking a Dental Patient Services Specialist to be the first point of contact for patients, delivering friendly, professional service while managing front desk operations and ensuring a smooth dental visit from start to finish.

You will register patients, schedule appointments, process payments, and support insurance conversations, with strict HIPAA compliance and proficient use of OpenEMR.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 1 year of customer service experience in medical or dental setting.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment.
• Working knowledge of office systems and EHRs.

Responsibilities

• Provide outstanding customer service to patients, families, and community partners.
• Schedule appointments and manage patient flow using OpenEMR.
• Register patients and update demographics with complete documentation.
• Maintain HIPAA confidentiality and compliance.
• Answer calls, triage patient needs, and route communications appropriately.
• Assist patients with insurance, payment plans, and Good Faith Estimates.
• Collect payments and reconcile daily cash drawer.
• Support check-in and check-out processes, including follow-up scheduling.
• Maintain clean, organized waiting areas and patient-facing spaces.
• Address patient concerns professionally and escalate when needed.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide outstanding customer service to patients, families, and community partners
• Schedule appointments, confirm visits, and manage patient flow using OpenEMR
• Register patients, update demographics, and ensure all documentation is complete and accurate
• Maintain strict confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA policies
• Answer calls, triage patient needs, and route communications appropriately
• Assist patients with insurance, payment plans, and Good Faith Estimates
• Collect payments, post transactions, and reconcile daily cash drawer
• Support both check-in and check-out processes, including follow-up scheduling
• Maintain organized workspaces, waiting areas, and patient-facing environments
• Address patient concerns professionally and escalate when needed

What You Bring:

• High school diploma or GED
• At least 1 year of customer service experience in a medical or dental setting
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment
• Working knowledge of office systems, EHRs, and multi-line phone systems
• Attention to detail with a patient-first mindset
• Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and care
• Preferred: Experience with dental insurance and third-party payers (Medicaid, Medicare, commercial)
