Job summary

Florida Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in Tampa, FL is seeking a Dental Assistant to join our team. This position supports doctors with chair-side assistance, patient education, charting, and operatory setup in a busy oral surgery practice.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED, a Dental Assisting Certificate, and Radiology License preferred. Bilingual skills are a plus; background check required; experience in oral surgery is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required or equivalent.
• Dental Assisting Certificate and Radiology License preferred.
• Oral surgery experience is a plus; bilingualism is a bonus.

Responsibilities

• Provides chair-side clinical support to doctors, including charting, patient education, operatory setup and clean-up.
• Manages patient flow and prioritizes the next operating room with updates to doctors.
• Welcomes patients at reception with a personal introduction and name.
• Takes and processes X-rays.
• Performs patient hand-offs.
• Updates patient treatment plans in the system as directed by the doctor.
• Verifies services met patient expectations and addresses gaps.
• Escorts patients to check-out and maintains sterilization of equipment.
• Monitors lab cases and ensures readiness for the next day’s schedule.
• Maintains emergency kits, supplies and complies with safety and HIPAA guidelines.

Essential Responsibilities

• Provides superior chair-side clinical support and assistance to doctors, which includes but is not limited to charting, patient education, Operatory set-up, and clean-up.
• Manages the patient flow; redirects efforts to respond to changes, prioritizes the next operating room for the Doctors, and updates the Doctors on the patients’ status.
• Welcomes and greets patients in the reception area and provides a personal introduction, including name and position.
• Takes and processes X-rays.
• Perform patient hand-offs.
• Enters and updates patient treatment plans at the direction of the treating Doctor using the company's operational system.
• Verifies the patient’s clinical service needs were exceeded and takes appropriate action when visits do not meet expectations.
• Escorts the patient to check-out.
• Completes sterilization processes for equipment and Operatory.
• Monitors all laboratory cases and ensures they are ready for the next day’s schedule.
• Maintains emergency kits and first aid supplies, emergency medications, and oxygen tanks.
• Follows maintenance schedules for the processor, autoclave, and compressor weekly.
• Identifies, reports, and follows up on any maintenance issues in the office, including dental equipment and handpieces.
• Follows OSHA regulations and MFSD safety requirements, including compliance with HIPAA guidelines, CPR, X-rays, and other required certifications and registrations.
• Other responsibilities as directed by supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

• Demonstrating a positive attitude in the face of difficult or challenging situations
• Education Level: High School or diploma or GED. Dental Assisting Certificate and Radiology License preferred.
• Job-Related/Industry Experience: This position requires an experienced Dental Assistant. Oral surgery experience is a plus!
• Background check required.
• Bilingual is a plus but not required
• Physical Requirements: Mostly walking, talking, standing, and updating information in computer systems.
