This role involves performing a variety of technical duties to assist in patient examination and treatment, including care and maintenance of dental instruments, equipment, and supplies.
Minimum Education and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Graduate from a dental assistant school required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a dental assistant.
Skills and Abilities
- Good oral and written communication skills, including telephone communication.
- Ability to perform effectively in a busy environment with interruptions.
- Proficient in operating a computer.
- Knowledge of dental procedures, terminology, and techniques.
Licenses and Certifications
- CPR certification.
- Nitrous Oxide Certified.
Essential Functions
- Prepare patients, sterilize, disinfect, and log instruments.
- Set up instrument trays and prepare dental materials.
- Assist in dental treatments, including seating patients, providing instruments, and charting.
- Assist dentist during procedures, including patient preparation and obtaining health history, vitals, and consent forms.
- Handle impressions and model pour-ups.
- Expose and develop radiographs.
- Monitor and record nitrous oxide treatments.
- Observe patient during procedures and alert dentist to any changes; administer emergency procedures if necessary.
- Provide post-operative instructions.
- Record treatment information and scan documents into patient records.
- Perform routine procedures such as cleanings, polishing, and fluoride treatments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
