Job summary

Military Deli & Bakery Services, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Manager/Shift Lead to lead 5–10 team members in a deli/bakery department at a US Military Commissary location.

You will uphold food safety, manage inventories, train staff, and maintain outstanding customer service for military families. This on-site role requires leadership, reliability, and flexibility, with growth opportunities across MDBS locations.

Qualifications

• 2+ years grocery or 2+ years food service experience.
• Previous shift lead/management experience mandatory.
• Ability to stand and walk short distances for an entire shift.
• Must have or obtain a valid Food Safety Management Certification within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Assist Deli/Bakery Manager in directing 5-10 employees and leading the department.
• Maintain high levels of customer service while meeting commissary requirements.
• Oversee food safety and sanitation policies and procedures.
• Help manage inventories by tracking weekly reports and ordering supplies.
• Assist in scheduling, training, and delegating work.
• Prepare and track inventories and monthly profit per policy.
• Maintain a safe, clean environment meeting health standards.
• Communicate professionally with commissary management to support store finances.
• Monitor customer satisfaction and identify improvement opportunities.
• Maintain accurate department records and support team morale.
• Perform duties of staff as required in this hands-on role.
