Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin’s Applied Research Laboratories seeks a Security and IT Manager to lead secure IT operations in a defense-focused research environment. You will ensure compliance with DoD requirements and oversee risk management while guiding a team of IT/security professionals at the Pickle Research Campus.

Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in IT/CS/cybersecurity or related field, eight years of experience in regulated environments, and DoD program experience

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or related field.
• Eight years of experience in IT and cybersecurity within a regulated or federal environment.
• Experience supporting DoD, UARC, FFRDC, or defense contractor programs.
• Working knowledge of NIST-based cybersecurity frameworks and accreditation processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead secure IT infrastructure operations for research networks and compute environments.
• Oversee cybersecurity strategy and implementation aligned with DoD frameworks.
• Manage risk assessments, vulnerability management, incident response, and audits.
• Ensure compliance with CUI, ITAR/EAR, and sponsor security requirements.
• Develop IT governance, policies, and security procedures.
• Lead and mentor IT/security staff; manage budgets and vendor relations.
• Serve as liaison to laboratory IT, security offices, and DoD stakeholders.
