The Deck Hand role at Host Terminals is a full-time, on-site position based in Braithwaite, LA. Deck Hands support vessel operations by handling lines, assisting with docking and undocking, and performing rigging tasks in accordance with safety procedures. Daily responsibilities include routine maintenance, cleaning, and inspection of equipment, as well as safe operation of small boats and support craft as needed. The role also involves communicating with supervisors, crew members, and customers to ensure efficient and professional service. Deck Hands are expected to follow all company safety rules, use personal protective equipment correctly, and contribute to a safe, organized working environment.

Qualifications
  • Ability to perform vessel operations and boat handling tasks safely and efficiently, with experience around working vessels and marine environments.
  • Knowledge of rigging practices, including handling lines, securing cargo or equipment, and using rigging tools in compliance with safety standards.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills to work effectively with crew members, supervisors, and clients in a professional manner.
  • Commitment to safety, including adherence to company safety policies, proper use of PPE, and awareness of maritime and terminal safety procedures.
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and handle lifting, bending, and climbing as required.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, based on operational needs.
  • Previous experience in marine, port, or industrial settings is beneficial; relevant certifications or training in maritime operations are a plus.
  • Reliable transportation to Braithwaite, LA worksite and ability to pass any required background checks or pre-employment screenings.
