Job summary

Enstructure in Memphis, Tennessee is hiring a deckhand responsible for maintaining safety, cleanliness, and order aboard the vessel. Duties include mooring the vessel, sweeping decks, loading materials, painting, and ensuring all machinery is operational. Candidates must have a valid Driver’s License and a High School Diploma.

The position requires a 12-hour work schedule, alternating between five nights and five days, with a total of five days off.

Job Summary & Core Duties

A deckhand, under the direction and supervision of the captain, will perform any combination of the following duties: Handle lines to moor the motor vessel to docks or another motor vessel, rig towing lines, sweep decks using a broom, brush, or mop; stand lookout watches while the motor vessel is underway; load or unload materials and supplies from docks or other vessels; paint decks and superstructure of the motor vessel using a chipper, scraper, and/or brush; lubricate machinery and equipment; splice and repair wire cables and lines using hand tools; and examine cables that hold barges and motor vessel in tow and, using a ratchet, tighten cables to ensure barges and vessel are snug, check barges and barge void tanks for leakage.

The deckhand is primarily accountable for his own health, safety, and cleanliness. He must be familiar with Fullen Dock & Warehouse LLC. policies, procedures, safety rules and regulations, and must always abide by them as well as applicable laws, regulations and other legal requirements.

To be responsible for his safety and the safety of fellow crew members and the vessel at all times and to report immediately to the captain all safety hazards and dangerous conditions which might be encountered on the motor vessel or the tow.

To keep the motor vessel, at all times, clean, orderly and in good repair. This includes painting and keeping all rigging in good working order.

To perform all duties and assignments as directed by, and supervised by, the Captain.

The standard work schedule for all deckhands is 12 hour shifts (5 nights, 5 days, and off for 5 days) starting at 6am to 6pm.
