Job summary

South Bend Community School Corporation is seeking a Special Education: Deaf/Hard of Hearing Educational Interpreter to provide accurate interpretation across classrooms and school settings. The role supports students with diverse communication needs, conveying spoken and signed language per each student’s needs.

Responsibilities include collaborating with teachers, TODHH, and other staff, documenting access and progress, and participating in IEP-related activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor-level or equivalent not required; high school diploma or GED needed.
  • Enrollment in or graduation from an Interpreter Training Program (ITP) with recommendations.
  • Active or pending Indiana state requirements for Educational Interpreters, including EIPA expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate interpretation of instructional content across settings.
  • Convey full intent and tone while maintaining message integrity.
  • Support both receptive and expressive language development for students.
  • Collaborate with TODHH, general education staff, and related services.
  • Document student access, present levels, and needs; participate in IEP meetings.
