Job summary

Lovington Municipal Schools is seeking a Special Education interpreter for the Deaf to facilitate communication for Deaf or hard-of-hearing students and staff. The role supports language access within classroom and school activities, ensuring accurate interpretation and transliteration.

The interpreter will transliterate English to signed English, interpret between spoken and signed language, and collaborate with teachers to align language concepts with IEP goals.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• RID Level III certification or EIPA level certification required.
• Alternatives to the above qualifications may be deemed appropriate by the Superintendent.

Responsibilities

• Transliterate spoken English to signed English.
• Interpret spoken English into the language of the student.
• Interpret the language of the student into standard English.
• Meet with the classroom teacher to familiarize with language and concepts.
• Convey the social-emotional contents of the message through facial expressions and body language.
• Abide by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf Code of Professional Conduct.
