Job summary

City of Chicago is seeking a Community Services Representative to support the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities. The role focuses on outreach, training, and program evaluation for Deaf and Hard of Hearing youth across Illinois, delivering presentations and coordinating community events.

The ideal candidate will develop materials, maintain records, and collaborate with partners while promoting accessibility and inclusion in city services.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in the social sciences or a directly related field, plus two (2) years of community or social services experience
• Six (6) years of community or social services work experience
• Graduation from an accredited college with an associate's degree in the social sciences or a directly related field, plus four (4) years of community or social service work experience
• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree or higher in the social sciences or a directly related field, plus one (1) year of community or social service work experience
• A valid State of Illinois driver's license is required

Responsibilities

• Develops training materials and facilitates presentations on substance use prevention strategies for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing youth in grades 6-12 through the State of Illinois.
• Proactively conducts outreach to Deaf and Hard of Hearing programs in Illinois to identify opportunities to present on substance use prevention strategies.
• Prepares handouts to use in trainings and outreach to share with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community, as well as the greater disability community.
• Maintains records and prepares reports on community outreach and training/ presentation activities.
• Conducts research on topics related to substance use prevention for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing population, as well as other disability-related topics.
• Promotes MOPD programs and services on social media and newsletter communications.
• Attend community meetings, resource fairs, expos, and events to inform residents of MOPD services, as well as discuss community concerns and receive requests for City services and programs identified as a need by the disability community.
• Assists in coordinating MOPD community meetings and events.
• Plans, prepares, and delivers lessons in ASL (beginner to advanced levels).
• Promotes awareness of Deaf culture, accessibility, and language equity. Performs other related duties as assigned.
