Job summary

City Colleges of Chicago seeks a part-time Sign Language Interpreter to facilitate effective communication across campus settings for deaf and hard-of-hearing students and staff. The role requires ASL proficiency, licensing, and the ability to cover multiple CCC campuses with evening/weekend availability.

The interpreter will provide accurate transliteration, maintain confidentiality, and educate faculty on disability policies, while upholding RID ethics and state licensure requirements.

Qualifications

• Must be licensed through the Illinois Deaf and Hard of Hearing Commission.
• Must be able to provide interpreting services at all campuses and satellite locations.
• Appropriate certifications and licensure through the Illinois Deaf and Hard of Hearing Commission.
• Intermediate level license minimum, Advanced/Master preferred.
• Two years of interpreting experience in post-secondary education.
• RID Code of Ethics adherence and licensure requirements.
• Continue professional development and license renewal by year-end.
• ASL proficiency required.
• MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) proficiency.
• Strong writing and verbal communication.
• Ability to work in diverse educational settings.

Responsibilities

• Provide sign-language interpreting/transliteration in classrooms, meetings, tutoring, testing, events, and assignments.
• Create and deliver training for faculty, staff, and students on interpreting services.
• Translate thought and intent accurately between deaf and hearing individuals.
• Interpreting in ASL/PSE as preferred by the deaf individual.
• Maintain privacy and confidentiality in interpreting situations.
• Educate staff about disability policies and regulations.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
