Job summary

Endeavor Health in Skokie, IL is seeking a Public Safety Officer for the Skokie Hospital campus. This full-time, day-shift role runs 6:00am to 2:30pm and involves providing unarmed, uniformed security and safety services to protect people and property.

The officer conducts foot or vehicle patrols, responds to incidents, directs traffic, and assists visitors while maintaining a courteous, professional presence.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum one year of experience in a customer-focused service-based organization.
• Two+ years of experience in law enforcement, military, or private security preferred.
• Experience in a healthcare environment preferred.
• Fundamental understanding of computers, loss prevention and fire/security technology.
• Valid Illinois Firearm Owner's Identification Card required within 90 days of start date.
• CPR certification within 90 days of start date.
• A valid driver's license is required.
• CPI certification within six months of hire.
• IAHSS Basic Healthcare Security Officer certification within twelve months of start date preferred.

Responsibilities

• Patrols assigned areas of facilities and grounds on foot or in motorized vehicle according to established schedule and investigates unusual occurrences.
• Reports incidents or apparent potential loss of Hospital, employee, patient or visitor property through fire, theft or vandalism and if necessary, involve police and provide assistance during police investigation.
• Responds to all service calls in a timely, safe, professional and courteous manner.
• Welcomes customers to the Hospital and provides directions to patients and visitors to help locate locations on Hospital Grounds; offers escort when possible.
• Directs vehicle traffic in and around hospital facilities to prevent congestion and ensures loading docks and ambulance zones are clear of unauthorized vehicles; issues parking citations as needed.
• Physically restrains unruly individuals when required and involves police for removal while providing necessary testimony.
• Administers control systems to protect valuables and equipment; monitors lost and found items.
• Checks that doors/windows are secured and inspects equipment; notifies staff of problems.
• Investigates and documents thefts, accidents and incidents to gather evidence and prepares clear reports.
