Job summary

UPMC Shadyside seeks two full-time internal medicine physicians to serve as daytime hospitalists for solid tumor oncology. The role provides inpatient care to adults with cancer and requires coordination with outpatient oncology teams, with 12-hour daytime shifts and no overnights.

The physicians will perform admissions from the ED, manage acute cancer-related issues, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to optimize patient care and handoffs at shift end.

Qualifications

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
• Completion of an accredited Internal Medicine residency.
• Board certification or board eligibility in Internal Medicine.
• Eligibility for an unrestricted Pennsylvania medical license.
• Experience in hospital medicine or caring for patients with cancer is preferred.
• Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and commitment to multidisciplinary care.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and admit patients from the emergency department and clinics.
• Provide inpatient medical management for adults with solid tumor malignancies.
• Coordinate consultations with outpatient oncology teams and multidisciplinary staff.
• Communicate regularly with outpatient oncology teams regarding the inpatient plan of care.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record.
• Hand off to the overnight clinical team at shift end.
• Participate in multidisciplinary discussions regarding complex oncology patients.
