Job summary

UPMC Shadyside is recruiting two full-time daytime Solid Tumor Oncology Hospitalists to provide inpatient care for adults with solid tumor malignancies. These board-certified or eligible Internal Medicine physicians will work daytime 12-hour shifts with no overnights and coordinate care with outpatient oncology teams.

The role emphasizes collaboration with medical oncologists, APRNs, nursing, and pharmacy, along with a strong handoff to the overnight team and participation in quality initiatives.

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree required.
• Completion of an ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine residency.
• Board certification or board eligibility in Internal Medicine.
• Eligibility for an unrestricted Pennsylvania medical license.
• Experience in hospital medicine or caring for patients with cancer preferred.
• Strong clinical judgment and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and admit patients from the ED, outpatient clinics, and referring hospitals.
• Provide inpatient medical management for adults with solid tumor malignancies.
• Assess and manage acute medical issues related to cancer and its treatment.
• Respond to clinical changes and stabilize patients in urgent situations.
• Initiate diagnostic evaluations and treatment plans.
• Coordinate consultations with medical and surgical specialists.
• Communicate with outpatient oncology teams regarding inpatient plans.
• Ensure safe transitions between inpatient and outpatient oncology care.
