Job summary

The Newark Board of Education invites qualified applicants to apply for the Senior Custodian Day position at McKinley Elementary School and Technology High School in Newark, NJ. This Civil Service title is filled provisionally with a later required Civil Service examination.

Under supervision, you will oversee custodial staff, manage cleaning and maintenance of buildings and grounds, assign work plans, and ensure safe, clean, and well-maintained facilities across multiple sites, with opportunity

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of supervisory experience in custodial or similar work.
• Current, valid Black Seal Boiler Operator License (high or low pressure).
• New Jersey driver’s license if vehicle operation is required.

Responsibilities

• Inspects, analyzes, and determines cleaning work to be done and materials needed.
• Supervises and leads custodial staff in cleaning and maintenance of buildings and grounds.
• Oversees cleaning of desks, chairs, rugs, lighting fixtures, windows and furniture.
• Directs floor cleaning, waxing, and polishing processes.
• Oversees application of cleaners, varnishes, and paints as needed.
• Keeps records of personnel, equipment, materials, and time spent.
