Job summary

Newark Board of Education is seeking a Senior Custodian Day for McKinley Elementary School and Technology High School in Newark. The role falls under New Jersey Civil Service with provisional appointment and a required exam later to attain permanent status.

Responsibilities include supervising custodial staff, planning cleaning and maintenance tasks, and ensuring safe, clean school environments across several sites. Salary ranges reflect the posted opening and union standards.

Qualifications

• High School or Vocational School graduation or equivalent.
• Two years of experience in heating, inspection, cleaning, and maintenance; one year in supervision.

Responsibilities

• Inspects, analyzes, and determines cleaning work to be done and materials needed.
• Establishes and maintains work plans for subordinates.
• Supervises cleaning, maintenance, and care of buildings and grounds.
• Oversees cleaning and maintenance of desks, chairs, rugs, lighting, windows and other fixtures.
• Supervises floor cleaning, waxing, and polishing.
• Supervises application of cleaners to furniture and floors.
• Leads upkeep of grounds, parking areas, and equipment operation.
• Maintains records of personnel, equipment, materials, and time spent.
• Reports necessary repairs to authorities.
• Learns to use agency information systems.
• Performs other duties as assigned by principal/supervisor.
