Job summary

Newark Board of Education in Newark, NJ invites applications for the Custodian Night positions at Chancellor Avenue School, Grover Cleveland Elementary, Michelle Obama Elementary, Nelson Mandela Elementary, Newark School of Architecture & Interior Design, and N.J. Regional Day.

Under the NJ Civil Service, provisional appointment followed by examination; duties include supervising custodial staff, planning maintenance, inspecting buildings, managing equipment, and ensuring cleaning and safety

Qualifications

• High school or equivalent required.
• Two years of building maintenance experience.
• Current Black Seal Boiler Operator License.
• Driver's license required if operation of a vehicle is necessary.

Responsibilities

• Inspects, analyzes, and determines cleaning work to be done and materials needed.
• Establishes, maintains, and develops effective work plans for subordinates.
• Supervises and leads cleaning, maintenance, and care of buildings and grounds.
• Supervises and leads cleaning of desks, chairs, rugs, lighting fixtures, windows and other furniture."
• Supervises floor cleaning, waxing, and polishing of floors.
• Oversees the use of cleaning agents on furniture and fixtures.
• Supervises reconditioning and maintenance of grounds and parking areas.
• Supervises operation of heating and ventilating equipment.
