Job summary

AHRC Nassau is looking for Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to provide ongoing support to individuals in Day Habilitation and ICF programs. The role focuses on self-care, health, safety, socialization, and overall well‑being to promote independence.

DSPs support personal goals, facilitate growth and skill-building in a community-based setting, and may transport participants to and from sites and activities, serving as a second staff backup as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Good oral and written communication skills
• AMAP/First Aid/CPR/SCIP-R Training preferred
• Valid NYS Driver License
• Minimum one (1) year experience working with people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities preferred

Responsibilities

• Ensures safety of program volunteers at sites and community hubs
• Trains volunteers to perform functional and meaningful tasks
• Acts as second staff support transporting participants to sites and activities
• Liaises between volunteer sites and staff
• Prompts volunteers to interact appropriately with peers and staff
• Reports volunteer progress and issues to Site Manager
• Completes required documentation
• Promotes agency philosophies including guiding principles
• Ensures safety of volunteers and reports incidents as needed
• Monitors mandatory training and maintains certifications (CPR; SCIP; AMAP)
• Performs additional duties as requested by supervisor
