Job summary

Astreya is seeking a Data Center Technician in Reno to install, move, and decommission data center hardware, including racks, servers, storage, and cables. You will label devices, manage racks, and communicate clearly via the ticketing system.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of Data Center Rack and Stack experience.
  • Working knowledge of ticketing systems.
  • Knowledge of asset management tools and processes.
  • Understanding of fiber cabling and copper cabling concepts.
  • Strong cable management skills and ability to manage racks and cables in a data center.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

Job description

The Data Center Technician will install, move, and decommissions hardware including cabinets, shelves, power strips, rails, fiber/copper/other cables and cable management, servers, storage, printers, and other devices in the Data Center. The technician will confirm and label devices, rack, and cables. The technician will work in a standard ticketing system, providing clear, timely, and appropriate customer communications.

The technician performs these activities under the direction of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Program Policies, Safety Policies, and Security Policies, meeting requirements for quality and quantity of work. The technician is responsible for the data integrity of all assets on the Data Center floor. The technician responds to trouble situations within the Data Center and will work with remote local site technicians on similar work described above.

Responsibilities:
  • Understanding the terminology racking & stacking
  • Able to safely lift and move a minimum of fifty (50) pounds/ 25 KG
  • High level of written and oral fluency in English
  • Must provide own transportation to work at a local location
  • Have knowledge of asset management and asset management tools
  • Can effectively utilize the ticket management process
  • Able rack networking equipment and server equipment
  • Have a good understanding of fiber cabling and copper cabling
  • Able to identify and locate cabling issues
  • Have a good understanding of different types of fiber and fiber terminology
  • Knowledge of different types of connectors
  • Know how to use Velcro
  • Must have good interpersonal skills for working in a team environment.
  • Must have good time management skills. Delivers a good quantity/quality of work
  • Able to prioritize and adapt to changing conditions or circumstances.
  • Able to operate material handling equipment
  • Able to work independently on tickets and projects
  • Must be able to find quick and effective solutions in a DC environment
  • Having basic networking experience (if possible CCNA)
Must Have Experience:
  • 2+ years of Data Center Rack and Stack experience
  • Working knowledge of one or more ticketing systems.
  • Working knowledge of tools (VFL, light meters, copper testers)
  • Working knowledge of networking components and infrastructures
  • Knowledgeable in Datacenter practices (i.e. basic fault tolerance, cable routing, calculating power usage)
  • Knowledgeable in Juniper, Cisco, and Dell equipment
  • Strong cable management skills and experience running fiber and copper in a data center.
  • Understand the electrical, HVAC, and bandwidth infrastructures of the data center
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
