Job summary

RBR-Technologies is seeking a Database Engineer to support a key program for the U.S. Department of State and modernize database architecture. You will help design data models, improve replication, and ensure secure handling of sensitive data across on-premises and cloud ecosystems.

Qualifications

• Active Top Secret clearance is required.
• Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, engineering or a related field.
• Hands-on experience with Oracle, SQL Server, .NET or Java and modern data technologies.

Responsibilities

• Research, evaluate, and recommend database platforms and architecture patterns (high-availability, hybrid-cloud, NoSQL where appropriate).
• Test database architectures for scalability, security, and performance.
• Establish database architecture standards and best practices across legacy and modernized environments.
• Support transition of legacy databases to modern architectures across on-premises and cloud environments.
• Design sustainable data models, schemas, and storage patterns including data lakes.

RBR-Technologies has an immediately available opening for a Database Engineer to work on a key program supporting the U.S. Department of State to help develop a modernized database architecture in an effort to align with modernization initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Research, evaluate, and recommend future database platforms, tools, and architecture patterns, including high-availability, hybrid-cloud, in-memory, and emerging data technologies.
• Test database architecture solutions that improve scalability, resilience, security, and performance.
• Assist in establishing database architecture standards, policies, and best practices across legacy and modernized environments.
• Support transition of legacy databases to modernized architectures while enabling coexistence across on-premises and cloud ecosystems.
• Help design sustainable enterprise data models, schemas, data structures, and modernized storage patterns such as data lakes and NoSQL where appropriate.
• Continuously improve database replication architecture and standards using approved tools and best practices.
• Design and implement data interfaces within the Department of State and with external agency partners.
• Gather, define, and refine database and reporting requirements for internal and external users.
• Maintain enterprise architecture documentation and technical artifacts, including data models, SOPs, installation guides, and related engineering documentation.
• Ensure sensitive data is properly handled, including sanitization of PII for non-production environments and alignment with security and operational requirements.

Basic Qualifications

• Active Top Secret security clearance
• This position can be hired at the junior, mid or senior level (see below)
• Junior level: 1-2 years related experience coupled with Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, engineering or a related field
• Mid- level: 4-5 years related experience coupled with Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, engineering or a related field
• Sr. level: 8-10 years related experience coupled with Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, engineering or a related field
• Hands-on technical experience in at least one of the following areas: Oracle, SQL Server, .NET, Java, engineered systems, cloud technologies, data integration, automated testing and deployments, and DevSecOps.
• Demonstrated experience supporting database engineering, architecture, modernization, and Tier III technical support functions in complex enterprise environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in high-availability, mission-critical, or large-scale federal enterprise systems requiring strong reliability, performance, and security.
• Experience working in environments that require close coordination with government stakeholders, cross-functional technical teams, and multiple contractors.
