Job summary

Grant Thornton seeks a Data Transformation & Governance Manager to lead data governance across acquired-company integrations and enterprise transformation. You will embed governance, quality, stewardship, and compliance into transformation programs to ensure data accuracy, security, and analytics readiness.

The role covers unstructured content and structured data, with accountability for data ownership, retention, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• 6+ years in data governance, transformation, or related roles.
• Experience applying governance to migration, integration, modernization, archival, or analytics.
• Governing unstructured and semi-structured content alongside structured data.
• Knowledge of records retention practices.
• Familiarity with legal hold and preservation obligations.
• Experience supporting merger, acquisition, divestiture, or acquired-company initiatives.
• Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, ownership, stewardship, metadata, and lineage.
• Experience defining and managing data quality rules and readiness metrics.
• Familiarity with data governance technologies such as catalogs, lineage, and data quality tools.
• Knowledge of data protection and privacy requirements and internal policy controls.
• Experience with retention/d documentation requirements from professional standards.
• Ability to partner with business leaders to translate governance concepts into practical requirements.
• Strong project management, stakeholder engagement, and executive reporting skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business, CS, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Apply governance frameworks to acquired-company integration and adapt to entity-specific needs.
• Embed governance into data transformation initiatives (migration, integration, modernization, archival, analytics).
• Maintain a view of the full data estate for each acquisition, including unstructured content.
• Catalog acquired-company content by category, sensitivity, ownership, and disposition.
• Advise on content handling during migration, including what to move, archive, or preserve.
• Assess unstructured content for regulated or client-confidential material and define handling requirements.
• Identify data owners and secure approvals before ingestion or use.
• Document approvals and holds before disposal or archival actions.
• Coordinate with legal, risk, and security on holds and access controls.
• Identify externally sourced datasets and ensure proper review or removal.
• Classify data against retention requirements and set disposal timing.
• Coordinate defensible disposal when retention periods expire.
• Ensure holds are respected before disposal or decommissioning.
• Work with stakeholders to define governance metrics and readiness gates.
• Produce executive dashboards and governance reporting to demonstrate value.
• Foster cross-functional governance sessions to align transformation goals with requirements.
• Support source-to-target mapping, lineage, and data issue resolution during transformations.
• Promote data-driven culture and governance awareness across teams.
