Job summary

Grant Thornton is seeking a Data Transformation & Governance Associate to join the team in the United States. The role supports governance, data quality, stewardship, and compliance across acquired-company data integration, including unstructured content and legacy systems.

You will collaborate with data governance leads, data stewards, IT and security stakeholders to organize, document, and ensure readiness for migration, retention, and analytics enablement.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in data governance, data management, data quality, data integration, records & information management, analytics or related roles.
• Experience supporting data governance, data quality, data documentation, data migration, integration, archival, analytics, or transformation activities.

Responsibilities

• Maintain data governance documentation to support acquired-company integration, including standards, roles, ownership lists, stewardship trackers, and escalation paths.
• Support governance activities for data transformation initiatives, including migration, integration, modernization, archival, reporting, and analytics enablement.
• Build-out of the data estate inventory for acquisitions, capturing structured data alongside mailboxes, file storage, collaboration content, and line-of-business repositories.
• Record content attributes in the inventory, including category, sensitivity, ownership, and business purpose, and keep entries current as discovery progresses.
• Prepare summaries of content categories and handling direction for migration planning.
• Assist with review of unstructured content for regulated material, and document findings for follow-up.
• Maintain ownership documentation for data domains and track domains without identified owners.
• Maintain approval records for new or changed use of data and for external sharing or third-party access.
• Flag data without established ownership and route for review.
• Apply enterprise retention categories to acquired-data and escalate items that do not classify cleanly.
• Maintain retention periods, triggers, and disposal timing for data and archived datasets.
• Support disposal activities by preparing schedules and collecting approvals.
• Check and record legal holds before disposal or archival and maintain hold records.
• Document circumstances extending retention and prepare extension requests.
• Capture data governance decisions and ownership for audit and advisory work.
• Record jurisdictional differences and flag conflicts for review.
• Support data quality and standardization with profiling summaries, issue logs, and remediation trackers.
• Maintain data definitions, metadata, lineage notes, and glossary entries for assigned domains.
• Maintain dashboards and meeting materials communicating governance progress and risks.
• Participate in cross-functional sessions and document decisions, actions, and owners.
