CarGurus is looking for a Data Governance Engineer Intern who will be responsible for small-scale implementations, maintaining, and enhancing data governance frameworks across the organization. You will collaborate closely with data architects, engineers, data analysts, and business teams to maintain high standards of data integrity, security, and accessibility.
As a Data Governance Engineer Intern, you will join an 11-week Summer Internship Program designed to give you hands-on experience, expand your professional network, and build core industry skills. This full-time opportunity (40 hours per week) runs from June through August 2027. CarGurus operates on a hybrid working model, and candidates should expect to work out of our Boston, MA office 60% of the time (approximately three days per week).
Data Quality Management: Establish processes for data quality monitoring and reporting, ensuring that data is accurate, complete, and consistent across the organization.
Metadata Management: Support, implement and maintain metadata repositories, ensuring the accurate capture and categorization of data assets.
Compliance & Security: Understand the data governance policies that CarGurus has to comply with.
Data Lineage: Learn on the job how to develop and maintain data lineage models to map.
Continuous Improvement: Opportunity to provide input on our data governance framework to adapt to new business needs, technologies, and regulatory requirements.
Documentation & Reporting: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for data governance processes, guidelines, and policies.
Automation: Learn to leverage APIs provided by different tools and databases and build automated workflows that make managing metadata, data quality, lineage etc. easier.
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or a related field, with eligibility to complete a full-time internship.
Interest in Python or similar languages, data quality management tools (e.g., Monte Carlo, Metaplane), and/or data governancetools (e.g., Alation, Atlan, data.world, Secoda).
Interest in data modeling, data lineage, and data classification and familiarity with Snowflake, dbt, and Looker.
Curiosity in problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Attention to detail and a passion for maintaining high-quality data.
The displayed range represents the expected hourly rate for this position.
