Job summary

CarGurus is seeking a Data Governance Engineer Intern to contribute to governance initiatives in a hybrid Boston office. This 11-week Summer Internship (40 hours/week) runs June–August 2027 and emphasizes hands-on experience, collaboration with data architects and engineers, and building core industry skills.

The role focuses on data quality, metadata, lineage, and documentation, with opportunities to automate workflows and work across cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in a related field with eligibility for a full-time internship.
• Interest in Python and data quality management tools and data governance tools.
• Interest in data modeling, lineage, and classification; familiarity with Snowflake, dbt and Looker.
• Curiosity in problem-solving and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to present complex ideas to non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Establish processes for data quality monitoring and reporting across the organization.
• Support and maintain metadata repositories and data asset categorization.
• Understand and help comply with data governance policies and security requirements.
• Learn to develop and maintain data lineage models.
• Contribute to ongoing improvements of the data governance framework.
• Create and maintain documentation and reporting for data governance processes and policies.
• Learn to leverage APIs and automate workflows for metadata, quality, and lineage management.
