Job summary

Sony Interactive Entertainment is seeking a Data Engineer II to build and maintain server-side data applications for PlayStation’s Cloud Streaming ecosystem. You will implement JVM-based services using Kotlin/Scala/Java, develop Flink jobs, and expose real-time data via APIs to support data-driven decisions across the organization.

You will partner with BI to translate requirements into insights, improve the data platform, and ensure scalable data pipelines across distributed environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years of software development and backend engineering experience with high throughput and concurrent systems.
• Proficient in JVM languages (Kotlin, Scala, Java) and Python.
• Experience with Apache Kafka, Flink, Spark, and SQL.
• Knowledge of functional and object-oriented paradigms, and TDD.
• Knowledge of REST, JSON, gRPC, and WebSockets.
• Experience with data formats like JSON, Avro, Protobuf; unstructured/semi-structured data.
• Experience with ETL, stream processing, real-time pipelines, and batch processing.
• Familiarity with Git and CI/CD processes.
• Experience monitoring and diagnosing system performance for reliability.
• Self-motivated with strong collaboration across time zones.
• Experience with AWS at enterprise scale (OpenSearch, MSK, EKS) a plus.
• Kubernetes, Docker and cloud deployment experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement middleware and backend systems capable of high throughput and load.
• Develop and maintain stream processing jobs using Flink (stateful/stateless) and scalable ETL pipelines.
• Optimize performance, reliability, and monitoring of the data pipeline stack.
• Support migration of on-prem Kafka to new cloud technologies.
• Analyze functional/business requirements in depth.
• Contribute to architectural decisions for PlayStation’s cloud streaming data pipeline.
• Collaborate with BI and product teams to turn data into actionable insights.
