Job summary

General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) is seeking a Data Engineer to build and sustain the data foundation for POTFF Enterprise Data and Analytics. You will acquire, integrate, and prepare data from government systems, design scalable pipelines, and enforce data quality, lineage, and governance.

You will collaborate with Data Scientists and Government personnel to identify sources, develop data requirements, and enable NLP/LLM use cases while ensuring security and compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a quantitative or computing discipline or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of professional data engineering or data pipeline development experience.
• Demonstrated proficiency in SQL and Python or a comparable language for data engineering.
• Experience building and operating data pipelines with ETL/ELT design, data modeling, quality checks, reproducible pipelines, and version control (Git).
• Ability to communicate clearly with analysts and non-technical stakeholders and document technical work for continuity.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines on Government-furnished tech stack (SQL Server, Databricks, Apache Spark) for batch processing.
• Fuse structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data into curated datasets across POTFF enterprise.
• Implement data quality controls, lineage, and governance; monitor workloads and resolve failures.
• Develop and maintain data models, dictionaries, metadata, and transformation logic under version control; document sources and steps.
• Prepare and curate text and unstructured data to support NLP/LLM use cases.
• Support integration of curated data products into visualization and low-code tools; deploy analytic products into workflows including basic MLOps.
• Apply DoW IL5, HIPAA, Privacy Act protocols to all data handling; implement access controls.
• Collaborate with Government personnel to identify data sources and translate analytics requirements into data requirements.
• Provide data engineering expertise and guidance to data scientists.
