Job summary

NextGen | GTA: A Kelly Telecom Company is seeking a Data Center Optical Engineer for field services in Ohio. This role involves installation, testing, troubleshooting, and operation of fiber optic transport in large data centers, with up to 100% travel to customer sites across the U.S.

The ideal candidate has hands-on fiber cabling, optical testing, data center operations, and leadership experience, and will audit technician work and interact directly with customers.

Qualifications

• 2.5+ years in fiber installation in large-scale data centers.
• 1.5+ years in a data-center operations environment.
• Strong hands-on with connectorized fiber and single/multi-mode fiber.
• Experience with LC connectors, fan-outs, and patch panels.
• Hands-on optical testing and troubleshooting experience.
• Familiarity with optical test equipment such as OTDRs and power meters.
• Proven team lead experience and strong customer-facing skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead optical infrastructure work in customer data centers and colocation facilities.
• Audit third-party technicians' work and provide immediate feedback.
• Interact with customers via ticketing systems and in person.
• Provide clear reports and status updates to customers and stakeholders.
• Assist with fiber installation, decommissioning, remediation, migration, and remote hands.
• Conduct and supervise optical testing and troubleshooting.
• Use optical test equipment to verify results and document actions.
• Execute MoPs and engineering documents accurately.
• Read cut sheets and network designs to ensure correct port connections.
• Verify fiber routing, labeling, and cable management.
• Lead technical activities at customer locations and kickoffs for new business.
• Travel to non-home-market locations as needed, possibly weeks at a time.
