Job summary

Nexcess is seeking an RMA Specialist to support our 24/7 data center operations in Sunnyvale, CA. You’ll manage hardware lifecycles, perform testing, triage failures, and coordinate RMAs with vendors to ensure quick replacements and minimal downtime.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years in data center hardware support, a degree or hands-on IT experience, familiarity with RAID and BIOS updates, and strong documentation and collaboration skills.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in data center operations, hardware support, or system build environments.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent hands‑on experience in IT, electronics, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of computer hardware architecture and diagnostic procedures.
• Familiarity with RAID, BIOS/firmware updates, and common hardware troubleshooting tools.
• Working knowledge of Linux and Windows Server operating systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform hardware setup, testing, and validation prior to deployment to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
• Diagnose, document, and escalation recurring or complex hardware failures.
• Coordinate RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) requests, including vendor communication, part returns, and tracking replacements.
• Maintain accurate inventory of hardware components, replacements, and RMA status.
• Support the installation, racking, and cabling of servers, switches, and related infrastructure.
• Execute data destruction procedures for reclaimed or decommissioned devices in accordance with security policies.
• Assist in performing hardware audits and maintaining asset documentation in internal tracking systems.
• Collaborate with team members to identify process improvements and update technical documentation.
