Job summary

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Data Center Chief Engineer to oversee electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety systems in a high‑availability data center. You’ll manage maintenance, respond to incidents, and lead projects from conception to completion.

This role requires coordinating with site teams, vendors, and finance, while delivering operational excellence and 99.999% uptime. A US citizenship and active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph are required.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of vendor management experience.
• 4+ years of data center or other critical environment experience.
• 5+ years of data center engineering or operations experience.
• 5+ years of Microsoft Office experience (Outlook, Word, Excel).

Responsibilities

• Oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in a data center.
• Operate independently with limited direct management.
• Act as an escalation point for facilities-related issues and support site stability.
• Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures.
• Troubleshoot and report facility and data center events within SLA.
• Create and deploy standard practices for engineering teams and vendors.
• Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians.
• Ensure safety procedures are followed by vendor and Amazon staff.
• Utilize internal CMMS to manage building workflows.
• Communicate complex technical information to non-technical audiences.
